I have been wanting to post pictures of some of the Brits we have helped over the years through Brittany Express or pulling them from kill shelters.  There are others we helped on the Brittany Express not listed here because we didn't take or save pictures.  For those that may not be familiar with Brittany Express it is a transport system coordinated by ABR where volunteers will drive a leg or legs with the dogs enroute to their new foster or forever home.   This post is not meant to be hey look at what we've done but more about the dogs and hopefully seeing them will inspire others to volunteer.

In no particular order we have:

Trevor -- Brittany Express. Trevor was in poor health but he was calm and sweet on the ride to his new foster home.  I never did hear how things turned out for him but I think of him often.

This is Opie -- He used our house for a few days before continuing on the Brittany Express to his new foster home.

This is Daisy -- We pulled Daisy from a kill shelter in a neighboring county.  She is probably part border collie but she was a lot Brittany.  We always thought that she could be related to one of our foster dogs I blogged about, Smiley Joe.  We rescued them within a day of each other from shelters in neighboring counties but basically the same country area.  They looked very much alike and had the same great spirit.  They now live in their forever homes a few miles apart.

The next guy was pulled from a kill shelter in SC.  This one actually didn't go to ABR. Turns out he wasn't a Brittany.  Because of some connections we have he was able to go to a local no kill shelter and they were able to place him in a new home.  ABR would have stepped up and taken him in if needed.

This is Buddy and Jake.  These two were transported via the Brittany Express

                                                                   As was Brownie

The next two, Max and Chloe stayed with us a few days while waiting on their next Brittany Express leg

We pulled Java from a kill shelter the same time we pulled Ryder and Onyx (see blog).
He was transported to a foster home and we heard reports he has done real well.

Another couple of Brittany Express transport

This is Chip on a Brittany Express run

And this is a sweet girl I named Brandi.  I had to make a very fast run to a kill shelter in SC that was about 90 75 minutes away. ABR got word at the last minute about her and she was going to be put down at the end of the day.  When I got her she was completely shut down.  We worked with her a few days and by the time she started her trip to her foster home she was a happy Brittany.

and 2 more Brittany Express transports (we have lost track of their  names)

This is a sweet, brave dog.  He's had a tough life up to this point. Now that he is with ABR things will be looking up.

Jill got an e-mail update with pictures for Foster Dog #9 Onyx today.

"I just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know that Onyx is doing great.  He got to spend a few weeks at the beach this summer and seemed to really enjoy it.  We are now back home into our busy routine of school and sports.  Onyx still does not like being left alone so we are working on that.  He seems to have some separation anxiety. I try to take him with me as much as I can but he still is not crazy about riding in the car although he is getting much better about it.  I can't tell you how much I love this dog.  He has been a great fit with our family and the  kids adore him."

Picture 2 - This was a group photo with the 3 children. I cropped them out for privacy reasons but it was a cute shot.

Ryder is in her new home. See my blog about her about 3 blogs down.

Update Tuesday August 27--
e-mail from her new owner

"She is doing swimmingly. She's still shy and barks at everything which to me shows she's warning the "Pack" because she's a member ... the only problem is she's usually barking at one of us because we came in the "wrong" door. She is really much better about everything.  She'll come around and I look forward to try taking her bird hunting in the Fall of 2014 ... she is very hard-headed about coming when called but she does understand what she's supposed to do."

4 of "our" girls made the summer 2013 edition of the Brit 911 Newsletter. All of these girls were heartworm positive when they came to us.  Nursing them through HW treatment helped create a bond we wont soon forget.

Two Three ways to help raise money for American Brittany Rescue- ABR

1. Do your web searches at Goodsearch.com.  Simply sign up for American Brittany Rescue to be the cause you are supporting and ABR gets a donation for each search.

2. Go to this website  --  https://www.truckvaultcares.com/index.php  -- and cast your vote for American Brittany Rescue.  You can vote once per day through the end of this year.  Money will be donated to ABR based on votes cast for each cause.

3.  From the latest ABR newsletter
For the 4th year in a row we will be participating in the NFL Charity Mania fundraiser.  Not only is it fun and easy but also very profitable for ABR.  Last year we sold 492 tickets and made over $6,000!  Also last year 30 people who bought tickets won a total of $1,025.  So not only is this fundraiser profitable for ABR but it could be profitable for you too!
This year the money raised from this fundraiser will be used directly to help the Magnolia Brittany dogs that came into the ABR.
Please help ABR by either buying a ticket or two or by helping us sell tickets.  If you would like to sell physical tickets to your friends & family please email Julie at jathomas26@gmail.com  We will be selling these tickets from now until the end of October.
E- tickets can easily be purchased online at....
$10 ticket -   https://www.charitymania.com/give/C3021

Foster #10 Ryder

August 17, 2013
Ryder is now in her new home.  We drove almost 800 miles round trip to deliver her to her new family.
Ryder is about a 5 year old female, 43 lb. brown roan Britt.  She came to us the same time as
our #9 dog Onix did.  Her early life story is the same as Onyx.  Ryder was more shy around people than Onyx and was slow to come around.  We are hoping her new owners will have the patience to bring her out of her shell the rest of the way. She is a very sweet dog. We had her almost 6 months and we all were very attached.  We'll miss her but we know letting her go was what we had to do.  If we kept them we wouldn't have room to foster the next one in need of a temporary home.

Foster #9 Onyx
We rescued Onyx from a kill shelter in Pender Co. NC in late February 2013.  Onyx was a scared and sick little guy when he left the shelter. When he went to his forever home in late April 2013 he was healthy and beginning to show his Brittany spirit.  His new family reported in May 2013 that he was doing well in his new home.

Foster #8 Dan

We had Dan for 10 weeks from early Jan 2013 through the middle of March.
Dan was rescued in Tenn. and fostered there for awhile. He was adopted by a family in NC but due to
family issues they had to give Dan up after only a week.  We took Dan in as a foster and took care of him while ABR found him a good home.  He is in his forever home and ABR reports he is doing well.

I got an update on the Peke,  Mister Peabody we rescued a little over a year ago.  The owners say he is a happy and healthy boy. They say he has a lot of personality.  I don't have a recent picture but I took plenty when he was with us.
